We had a couple of challenges along our trip. The first was to identify as many license plates as possible. We did pretty good. We ended up with 43 license plates identified through our travels. Alaska and Hawaii were the rainbow unicorn plates. We got an Alaska in Zion which was a cause for celebration. 

The second was the ice cream challenge where we tried ice cream in every state and the kids determined which state has the best ice cream. California and Illinois are out of the running since they’re biased to both.  Starting from worst to best, and also the first state, we begin with the worst. They each got got two scoops in Cameron, Arizona.  As you can see from Ashlyn’s rating it received a solid side ways thumbs up. 

Next up was the second to last place in Fort Collins, Colorado. We got into town late at night after everything had closed and since we pulled out of state early the next morning we stopped at a gas station/grocery store and picked up some pre-wrapped freezer ice cream...but it still beat out Arizona. 

Climbing the list was a big scoop at Wall Drug in South Dakota. It was homemade and very creamy but the kids deemed it too creamy. 

For a number of days Zion, Nevada reigned supreme. Hoo Doo’s offered up a tastey treat on a hot day. 

Coming in a close second was Dairy Freeze in Minnesota. Not only was it good ice cream it was quite the social spot for 10pm on a Tuesday night. 

And finally, the number one ice cream place was the Big Dipper in Laramie, Wyoming.  Homemade ice cream with unique flavors skyrocketed it to first place.
