The week started out with the school's annual Ice Cream Social where they ran into a number of friends they haven't seen much over the summer. Afterwards, Reghan went to her friend Cav's house for a fun barbeque.
It was difficult to break them up at the end of the night.
While she was there, I went back to the school for parents night where we got to meet the teachers and they walk us through their approach for the school year. The third grade teachers gave a group presentation vs individual ones in each of their rooms. Reghan has Mrs. Cook, standing on the left. The theme for the start of the year for the third graders is a spin on the current summer Olympics in Rio. R = Responsibility, I = Independent, O = Organized.
I then went to Heath's room with Mrs. Denny. As I walked in I saw the parents of his good friend Ace laughing and shaking their heads till I realized why. This year he moves up off the mat on the floor into a desk. And who is he sitting directly across from, but Ace. Literally facing each other. They give them till Friday before they're separated. I think they may make it till next Friday. Time will tell.
How good of friends you ask? Well, they see each other all of the time and yet this is how they reacted the first day of school.
Ashlyn had a separate morning all to herself. Tuesday morning was her Kindergarten orientation where she met her new teacher, Mrs. Galarza. Because she went to camp through the school for a couple of weeks prior, and a few of her pre-school friends go here, she was quite the social butterfly.
There was some time in the classroom during orientation where us parents hung out in the back of the room while the kids began to get familiar with Mrs. Galarza. Our neighbor, Eli, is in Ashlyn's class as well and leave it up to them as soon as one of them raised a hand with a comment or question then the other one did right away. After they were finished then that opened the door for other students to follow suit.
She had no problem finding her cubbie.
And then the morning of. They left us behind in the dust with the speed they walked up to the gate of the school.
It didn't take long before they began to run into friends.
First stop was finding Reghan and Heath's room number to drop their back packs and line up. Along the way finding more friends.
Heath was being quite respectful while lined up in front of his classroom listening to Mrs. Denny.
Then back to Ashlyn for her official first day. She was keeping a look out for her bestie Taylor. (notice the matching necklaces) Taylor's mom made the great sign.Enter Eli, all three of them neighbors and all three of them starting Kindergarten. WOW.
Culminating with the mayhem of the lining up prior to walking into the room. Ashlyn was first in line and first in the room with a quick goodbye, hug, and a blown kiss, away she went.
While some children were nervous and some were in tears when it was time for us to go, not our girl. After another air hug and blown kiss, she yelled, "I Love You" with a smile and turned around for her next adventure. Let the year of new experiences begin.
