1) turn 90
2) have your entire family visit for a multiple day celebration
3) have lots of laughs
Great Grandma Janie (aka, GG) turned 90 on Sept. 1st and we rang it in with style. GG lives in a condo on the beach and she hooked us all up with lodging in her building; we stayed at her place while everyone else was scattered in other units close by.
Most days started out at the beach and since it's somewhat of a private beach we pretty much took it over.
Made a killer sand castle.
Capping off the first evening with a dip in the pool.
Cousin Ian is about 5 months older than Ashlyn so their verbal skills take on a life of their own. GG's place has an elevator in it but for the week it was deemed the "alligator" per Ian which they loved riding in.
Reghan's learning how to snap her fingers and was showing off her skills followed by a smooch.
The morning of the party was spent where else, but on the beach.
The matriarch with her 3 Grandson's.
A quick stop for lunch, a nap, then off to the party.
GG chose the place well. She successfully found a relaxed location that all 5 of her Great Grandchildren would enjoy and not be "too stuffy". The party was at Crabby Joe's on the water in the heart of Daytona Beach. The kids loved that cars can ride and park along the beach, not to mention that they could see the water through the cracks in the floor during dinner. Us parent's loved that the kids could move around and anything dropped made it's way through the cracks to the fish below.

Dolly, GG's close friend came along for the ride. GG's a whole 10 years older than Dolly but you'd never know it, the two of them are surely a force. And yes, that's Happy Birthday confetti stuck to their foreheads.
Susan and Rory also came down for the weekend festivities.
The first Happy Birthday song of the night.
The whole lot of us, minus Aunt Cha Cha who was taking the picture and Uncle Chris is hiding behind the column.
Upon arriving for the next wave of the evening we tried to get a picture of GG with all 5 Great Grandchildren. Hmmm, more difficult than any of us could've imagined. Below is a sampling of perhaps 20 shot's between 3 camera's trying to get one good one. There's Reghan (5), Heath (3), Ian (2.5), Ashlyn (28 mo.), and Colin (11 mo.).
On to cake and libations. The cake before and after 90 candles were lit on top of it. You heard correctly, all 90 candles were lit and blown out by GG and the little ones.
All while the champagne was being uncorked.
The proud mother with her son.
And the glasses were filled, and re-filled, and filled some more....
...till a call came in from Melanie in Canada. Melanie who? GG had no idea, nor did any of us but she invited her to the party anyhow. Needless to say she didn't come by.
I think we can all agree it's never a party unless someone gets naked.
A little more dancing and some raiding of GG's closet closed out the night.
I've said it a hundred times and I'll say it a hundred more. When I reach this birthday girl's age, if I'm half like her, I'll be a happy woman! Happy 90th birthday GG!
